Stourton Caundle Golf Society Monthly Report – November 2023

A bright yet breezy day, threatening to rain but just holding off thankfully, and we were out enjoying our ‘Mystery Club’ day. Everyone brings balls and a putter, and then the random draw not only decided playing partners, but also a mystery club from the Folke old clubs stock. Everything from Drivers to pitching wedges, with a couple of kids clubs thrown in for good measure. It meant a low scoring day, but it did raise plenty of smiles. And nobody did tell Alban that we stitched him up with a kids 9 iron, rather than the 6 iron he actually should have played with. It’ll be our secret. No handicap changes for this format though

Our winner today was Lawrie Yandell and his rescue wood with 14 points. Long overdue win for you Lawrie, and no cut to suffer either

The Des Austin Challenge was won by Jim Ackland. Despite a few practice swings in the clubhouse, it wasn’t until he got to the first tee that he realised he was burdened with a kids pitching wedge, barely 3’ long. Three air shots and two in the water would have put most people off carrying on, but not Jim, who manfully played all 9 holes bent in half trying to hit the worst club in the bag. Well played sir.
