Stourton Caundle Golf Society Monthly Report – January 2022
A crisp, fresh morning for the SCGS Xmas do. Bacon butties and coffee, nine holes of golf, some extra team rounds and a 2 course carvery Xmas meal, with everyone in Xmas jumpers, so all were in festive mood. The course was in cracking condition, and the meal was very good. There was a speech from our President, everyone told a joke and then there were presentations, both for the days competition, and for the 2021 combined results
This months individual champion was Archie Harris, with 16 points. The honours are his for the next month, and a 2 point cut.
Our team winners were team The Dukes of Hazzard, scoring 64. Below average on the course, and in the quiz, but a miraculous first attempt in the putting competition gave an all important 20 extra points, which saw them victorious. Congrats Marty Bond, Simon Price, Neil Duke and Mutley Rose
The Des Austen challenge was won by Dave Sobczyk. The challenge this month was nearest the pin in 3 shots on the par 5 4th Hole. A newly commissioned trophy for the Des Austen Challenge was presented, and Dave is it’s first winner
The two 2021 annual awards were also presented. The main award is for best average points score over the years games. This represents the best performing and most consistent golfer, playing at least 4 games. Marty Bond was the winner this year with an average of 13.625. The most improved award, on countback, went to Rob Mitchell, ending the year with a handicap 2 shots lower. Congrats to him.
