Garden Club
Friendly and Informal Meetings
We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, September to April, to discuss all things gardening in a friendly and informal atmosphere.
The January supper is always a huge success, whilst the Annual Show brings the whole village together and looks wonderful.
Membership
Currently we have 90 members, mainly from Stourton Caundle village but also from surrounding villages such as Lydlinch, Holwell, Bagber, Milborne Port and The Caundles.
Annual subscription is £12 per year / £22 per couple – payable each September.
New members are always welcome – just turn up at the village hall or contact us at gardening@stourtoncaundle.co.uk
Benefits of Membership
This allows entry to the excellent talks given by Helen Yemm, Val Bourne, Andy McIndoe, Derry Watkins and Martin Young to name just a few of our recent speakers.
Our club subscribes to “The Gold Club” of Castle Gardens Garden Centre which entitles members to discounted shopping on 3 occasions each year, discounted compost each January and free home delivery.
Visits are arranged to outstanding local gardens and other gardens in the South.
Over the years our Club has made financial donations to the Caundler magazine, the village hall and local charities such as Julia’s House, Dorset and Somerset air Ambulance, Age Concern Sturminster Newton, Macmillan Nurses and Horatio’s garden. We have bought village hall tables and the kitchen wall-mounted water boiler. To enhance the rather plain exterior of the Village Hall climbing plants have been planted and we fill and maintain the wooden planters with seasonal plants.
Annual Flower and Produce Show
Each year in early September we hold an annual Flower and Produce Show. Entries are invited for a wide variety of different categories including Horticulture, Vegetables, Fruit, Flowers, Floral Art, Domestic, Arts and Handicrafts. We also have a couple of special categories only open to children from the village.
